What Would Jesus Do?

Emotion (noun): a strong feeling such as love, anger, joy, hate, or fear

Emotions tend to control our life. Wherever we go, we always feel something and that shouldn’t be avoided. It’s important to feel in order to live. Without emotions, life is bland, but sometimes,  it can all get a bit too much.

Our emotions change on an daily basis. One moment, we could be laughing and the next moment, we could be bawling our eyes out. When we are faced with a difficult situation, our emotions take over our mind and we feel like we can’t do anything about them. We feel overwhelmed and powerless. As much as we shouldn’t hide from our feelings, they occasionally lie to us and push us to do unreasonable things. When we let them do the driving, we tend to act on our impulses and make big mistakes. We make decisions based on what we feel rather than what’s true. Not everyone is perfect and we all can be a bit careless sometimes.

When we are going through a tough and challenging time in our lives, it’s important to learn how to control our emotions. Why? If we don’t, we will most likely explode and make wrong decisions. We may even hurt some of the people we love. For us to be able to control our emotions, we need wisdom. Wisdom is knowing, loving, and obeying God’s Word and applying that knowledge to make good decisions. God gave us emotions so that we could be more sensitive to the needs of others. He tells us to be patient and we must take our time while making decisions. Patience is the key to controlling our emotions. A patient person will welcome whatever difficulties are given to him and allow them to perfect his character. We should always pray, ask God for wisdom and patience to make the right choices.

We shouldn’t also forget that Jesus faced the same challenges we face. The devil still pulls the same tricks and Jesus had to deal with them as well. He knows what we feel. He knows our feelings and He can be trusted with them. Before making decisions, big or small, we must ask this important question. What would Jesus do? He had the same feelings we did, but He never sinned because of them. When we are faced with tough decisions to make, we should always keep in mind that Jesus is here to help us. He’s always available when we need Him and He will always show us what we should do.

Our Purpose

Do you ever wonder what you’re here for? Why you are here on Earth? Why do you exist? What’s our purpose? Before answering those questions, let’s find out what purpose actually means.

Purpose is the aim or goal of something. It is the reason why something is done.

Now that we’ve got that sorted, let’s get our heads focused on this topic. Many people have already found their purpose, but many are still struggling to find their calling. I am one of those and if you are too, you are definitely not alone. I’ve met quite a lot of people who have their whole life planned out. They know what college they would like to go to, what course they’re going to take, and what job they want to have in the future. As for me, I have absolutely no idea.

There have been plenty of times where I question my existence. I would wonder if I was made to do great things or to just be in the sidelines. It was only recently where I genuinely felt like my life won’t go anywhere, but God spoke to me. He gave me an answer through a Christian Living lesson. He told me everyone is created for a reason.

God gave us special skills and abilities and we should never hide them. We must use them to bring Him glory. Now, this is what struck me the most. We are not called to succeed all the time. We may fail, but we shouldn’t lose hope. Being a golfer who started quite late, I tend to rush things.  I want to be like those golfers you see on TV and on magazines, but I know it won’t happen immediately. The reason why this hit me is because I tend to make so many mistakes on the golf course and get upset about it. I have to keep reminding myself that to get to the top, I have to endure obstacles first. I will fail, but I won’t give up. I will fall, but I will thank God for each trial. Once I finally have a victory, I will praise Him. Through everything, He’s been by my side no matter what.

We may not realize what life has in store for us now, but we shouldn’t worry! God has a plan for each of us and we shouldn’t lose faith.

What Is God Like?

What if one of your friends asked the question, “What is God like?” What would you answer? He is definitely my best friend and someone who I can always count on, so I think I actually have an answer for that question.

First of all, He is omnipresent. Omnipresent means that He is always present. If we are at a point in our lives where we feel left out or alone, we must always remember that Someone is always open for a chat. I bet that everyone has had the thought that God’s not listening or He’s not there, but He’s always with us. He’s always there for us no matter what.

Second, He is omniscient, meaning He is all-knowing. He keeps an eye on us 24/7 and we can never hide anything from Him. Come on, there are 7 billion people in the world and He knows what each one is doing. Isn’t that amazing? We think that we can hide something from Him, but no. He knows the past, the present, and the future. This may be random, but people are like mushrooms. As you may not know, the part of the mushroom that is visible to the eye isn’t the main part. That’s just the fruiting body while the main part is actually hidden under the soil and is called the mycelium. When you think you’ve killed the mushroom by pulling the fruiting body out, you’re wrong. The mycelium is still there, meaning, it could reproduce. That’s like us and sin. We think that we’re godly already, but we may be hiding hatred, anger, or bad thoughts. If we confess most of our sins but still leave some out, those that you’re hiding could still grow and become worse.

The Fall

You might be wondering what I’m talking about. Falling from a bike? Falling from a tree? Actually, it’s neither of those. What I’m talking about has caused pain for us humans. Yes, falling from a bike or a tree can give the same feeling, but it’s not as great as the pain that is caused by the Fall.

What is it then? The Fall is the moment sin entered God’s Creation. It was the moment Adam and Eve bit from a fruit of the forbidden tree. That’s when everything changed when sin entered the world.

“It’s all Adam and Eve’s fault! All pain and hardships on this earth wouldn’t even exist if it wasn’t for them,” we say. That’s actually one of the consequences of the Fall. Humans started pointing fingers at others because we are afraid of punishment.  We started blaming one another to avoid taking responsibility for our own actions. We also aren’t able to walk or talk face-to-face with the Lord anymore.

Now that we know what happened when disharmony or sin entered God’s Creation, what do you think would life be like when the Fall didn’t happen? What wouldn’t exist? Ever since we learned about it, my mom, my sister, and I keep having sudden conversations about this. Quite a few examples are listed below.

Dermatologists, doctors, and dentists wouldn’t exist. Why? Before the Fall, we never felt ashamed of ourselves. We never felt like we needed to change a part of our body. We were satisfied with the way we looked. Doctors and dentists wouldn’t also exist because sicknesses never existed before sin entered God’s Creation. We were a healthy bunch! For example, eyeglasses and braces won’t have to be a part of this world! Wouldn’t that be nice?

Wars, murder, crime, guns, knives, and rape. When you read those words, what do you think of? What do you feel? Don’t you feel terrible? Why do those have to exist? Why can’t we all get along? What causes those? Arguments, hate, and anger. Before the Fall, humans never fought with other humans. We were all at ease with one another. Before sin entered Creation, the world was a peaceful place.

This may be out of the blue, but history books wouldn’t exist either. Why? What do you usually read about? Wars and death, right? Those never existed before the Fall. If sin never entered the Earth, no one would die. No one would fight and kill each other. No one would even have to make weapons just to use them against those who are like themselves.

What you’ve read is just the tip of the iceberg. In my mind, there’s a list of things that wouldn’t exist if the Fall didn’t happen although I have a question.

Would countries exist?

What purpose do countries serve? They separate the citizens from other surrounding countries, right? If the Fall never happened, we’d all be united. We would all be at peace with one another. We won’t need to separate ourselves from others.

You might be wondering if our lives would be like this for the rest of our lives. No! Someone important is going to return to the world. His name is Jesus. All we have to do is accept Him, talk to Him, and…

Trust Him.

“Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace”

Trust In Him

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3: 5-6

I’ve been reading the Bible lately and I’ve finally declared that Proverbs 3: 5-6 are added to the list of my favorite verses. If I start feeling lost, I would go back to this verse and read it again. I feel like this would definitely put me at ease!

We’ve been reading that God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. In other words, He is all-knowing, all powerful, and all present.

Whenever we have problems, we can always turn to Him. God is protecting us 24/7 and is watching over us all the time. He is everywhere! He is in the smallest crack and in the biggest expanse. In this century, quite a lot of people tend to stray away from their faith. We forget that God is with us and is available whenever we need Him, but He’s always here!

One more thing…everyone has their own sets of problems, right? God consistently guides us through them. There are 7 billion people in the world and He still manages to help us with the smallest problem we have. His love for us is beyond words and His greatness is beyond our thoughts. If you feel down, remember that He is there for you. He knows everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen. Keep that in mind!

I’ve been asked to write my own version of Proverbs 3: 5-6. Here it is!

Trust in the Lord and not in your own thoughts. God is always there to guide us if we stray away. He will make us a better person.

His Phenomenal Wonders

Do you ever sit down and just think about how amazing and powerful God is? Is it part of your thoughts before you go to sleep?  I do. God has done so many things that just make me wonderstruck. Two of those are His miracles and the amount of followers He has. Why?

Can an average person, like me, perform miracles? No, but God can! He is extraordinary and amazing. My favorite miracles would have to be Jesus Feeds Five Thousand (Mark 6: 30-44) and Jesus Heals A Boy With A Demon (Matthew 17: 14-20). Why? It’s amazing how He fed five thousand people with just five loaves of bread and two fish. Doesn’t it make you wonder? It also stuns me how Jesus can drive a demon out of a boy. Average people, like me, cannot do that! God is so powerful that He can do anything. Doesn’t it take your breath away?
As most (or maybe even all) of you know, Jesus was born in a manger. He was born in such simple surroundings and acted like a normal person. There was one special thing about Him though. He is the child of God and He has followers. By followers, I mean Christians, Catholics, etc. There are also people who give their lives to Christ and they are called saints. My favorite saint would have to be Blessed Brother Andre because he was known for his sense of humor. Research shows that laughter strengthens the immune system. It refreshes us from our troubles which allows us to connect with God more.
Speaking of connecting with God, I have been building up my relationship with God ever since I’ve been going to an event called Elevate. Elevate gives you a chance to get closer with God. For the past few days, a lot of things has been going through my mind. One of those things is that it’s portfolio week and I bet every homeschooler agrees that portfolio week can be stressful. With that happening right now, I decide to lift my day up to the Lord and let Him be in charge of it. Since I know that God has done many great and astounding things, I know He can help me with all my troubles and He can help you, too! You don’t need to see to believe, but you can definitely believe to see.

Pagtataksil

God’s Continuing Providence

Have you ever seen a piece of trash or a seed? A piece of trash like a bottle looks ugly, but you can use it as a flower vase or you can use it to make a boat to save people during floods. A seed looks plain and round, but when it grows, a beautiful, green plant comes out of it!  In Christian Living, I learned about God’s providence. Providence is the protective care of God. When something bad happens, something good comes out of it. Through bad times, God leads the way to a better world for ourselves.

I made a poster about some of the bad things or events that happen to me and the good things that come out of it.

Here is my poster:

Thumbs down for bad and thumbs up for good! I also drew the  hands.

From now on, whenever I will do something, I will ask God for help. He will tell me what is right and what is wrong. Even though I don’t like the results, I should accept it because God knows it is for the best. As the saying goes, “When God closes a door, He opens a window.”
