Kapatid

Sacrifice Beads

Do you know what these are? These are sacrifice/prayer beads. I made four of them with my sister a few days back. How am I going to use them? I am going to use them to count my sacrifices and blessings, and to remind myself to pray every day. I haven’t thought of the sacrifices that I’m going to make, but I already have some ideas.

We were inspired by St. Therese of Lisieux who had these beads herself. She did tasks with all her heart no matter how big or small it is. We should all be like her. We should all have a godly attitude in the tasks we need to do even though it is difficult. I hope that these beads will remind me to have a godly attitude in what I do everyday and to offer all of them to Christ.

Algebraic Equations

These are just some of the exercises I had to do for Pre-Algebra. Most of my friends say that pre-algebra and algebra are really difficult, but I’m currently having fun! This is just basic Pre-Algebra, so it will definitely get more difficult once I level up to Algebra. I’ll just try to have as much fun as I can in my school years even if it’s very stressful.

Open For Business

Last quarter, I started a pretend sports store for my Business Math. It’s actually pretty easy to “manage” a business on paper, but when it comes to real life, it’s difficult.
I actually have a business right now. It’s called Crumbs and I sell crinkles, cookies, and bruffins (brownie muffins). At the start, I thought it would be really easy, but I was wrong. It’s difficult to manage your expenses and get more customers. Right now, it’s on hold because of school. I also don’t have much customers yet, but some event is coming up soon where I and some other friends get to sell things.
On November 23-24, I will be in a bazaar along with my sewing classmates. We will be selling headbands, bags, and maybe even belts. We just estimated the price of each one because we were using scraps of fabric. The best thing about this is that we have bazaar sewing days. What do we do? All the sewing class students come together in the studio to make what we are selling! All of us are having fun now, but in the bazaar, we might come across some obstacles.
     OBSTACLE #1: Getting customers
Since this would be our first bazaar, we still don’t know how to attract the attention of the people passing by. Most of the people handling our booth would actually be kids and that would mean we don’t really have experience selling products yet.
     OBSTACLE #2: Managing the money
We need to be careful with the money. We are kids and that could mean we could misplace some money or lose money. We have to check whether the customers are paying the exact amount or if we are losing some bills.
     OBSTACLE #3: Managing the booth
Everyone should get their turn in promoting, giving out fliers, managing the money, and managing the booth. It’s also important to keep the booth clean and neat, so that the looks of it won’t discourage the customers away.
Those are the obstacles I can think of, so far. I believe that these also apply to not only bazaar booths, but also to restaurants and shops.
I am very excited for the bazaar because I would actually experience selling products in real life. I reckon it would be super fun!
By the way, not ALL of the money we earn will be shared equally among all the sewing students. We decided that a portion of it will be donated to the Bohol and Cebu earthquake victims and the rest would be a reward for our hard work.

Art: Texture and Shape

Co

I recently saw amazing drawings online and I literally couldn’t believe my eyes. They were absolutely amazing! They all looked so real. The one thing that caught my eye was a drawing of eyes! Since I was learning about shape and texture in Art, I decided to have a go on drawing eyes.
I am very proud of the last drawing because it was my very first attempt of drawing eyes and it actually turned out quite good. I also am proud of the cookie drawing. At first, I didn’t think that I would be able to finish it because I get frustrated easily if it doesn’t go the way I planned it. It turned out well, too.
I’m hoping that the next batch of drawings will turn out as good or even better as this batch.

May tanong ako ngayon.

Pen Vs. Sword

As all of you who are reading this know, I am a blogger. I want change in the world. Majority of the people on earth want change. There are two different ways that can show YOU want change. Blogging (pen) and actually acting on it (sword). Most of us know how acting on it works, but what about blogging?
I haven’t posted anything particularly about change in the world, but I want change. I just don’t know exactly or specifically what. I believe we could start by writing a post then publishing it. People will read the post and spread it to others. Those “others” will then spread it and before you know it, probably half of the world read it already. That’s how you can show you want change.
Some people might say “I don’t know what to write about” or “I’m too shy”. I myself don’t know what to write about either. The time will come where your perfect idea will fall on your lap.
What about acting on it? Do you know JacksGap? The YouTube channel run by the Harries twins? If not, let me tell you about them. They not only post YouTube videos about random things, but they travel the world visiting charities and raising money for projects. They recently raised over $100,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust. A few months ago, they visited South Africa to support Comic Relief. Comic Relief is a charity based in United Kingdom which raise money for projects abroad and in the UK. Five months ago, they went to Sri Lanka to visit a centre for children who don’t have the necessities we usually take for granted or don’t get to have the chance to go to school. It is called Rainbow Centre.
After watching their videos where they were traveling the world helping others, I immediately knew that this is my ultimate goal in life. THIS IS THE CHANGE I WANT. I want to travel the world helping others and raising money for charities. Whenever I see some unfortunate people, I just immediately want to give them money or food. Sometimes, I really get teary-eyed just seeing them.
Even though I’m just 12, I want to act now. I can blog and tell other people about it. I can also act upon it.
To all the people, especially kids like me, who know what change they want in the world, I tell you this: No matter what your age is, you can act on it by blogging and literally acting upon it. No matter what people tell you, YOU CAN DO IT. You can use the pen AND the sword at the same time.

Nerdy Science

I find experiments fun. Do you?

Yesterday, my dad and I performed an experiment showing how the water table works. If you don’t know what the water table is, it is the line between water saturated soil and soil that is not saturated with water. (Nerdy nerdy).  I was so fascinated that I watched the water drop down until the last drop drops. I was not able to take pictures of what you need or every step, but I was able to take some! I hope it helps.

Source: here
Let’s go!

   WHAT YOU NEED:
A empty gallon of water
A cutter
Rags
Stones
Soil
A pail
A tool where you can scoop soil with
Water
STEPS (some with pictures, some without):

1. Cut the empty gallon of water in half using the cutter.

2. Make the top half upside down and put it over the bottom half.

3. Get the rags and place them in the top half container. Press down, so that it is compressed a bit.
4. Place stones on the rags.
5. Scoop soil with the tool-you-can-scoop-soil-with and place it on top of the stones. Make sure you put quite a lot! It’s fine if you compress it or not. 🙂
6. Pour water with the pail into the container and watch! It may take a while before the water drips from the bottom opening, but I assure you that you will be fascinated. (Like me!)
This experiment basically shows how the water table works. Water seeps into the soil, passes through several layers, and gets filtered! The less water that seeps into the soil, the deeper the water table. The more water that seeps into the soil, the water table gets shallower!
The water is actually groundwater, which is the biggest source of freshwater we have. This is the reason why we shouldn’t throw chemicals or gasoline into the soil because it can affect us! It’s difficult to trace back the source of the chemicals.
Now that we know about groundwater and the chemicals that can seep into it, we all should be mindful of the things we toss on the ground. It might contain something that can pollute the ground water. Better yet, we should all try to not dispose trash on land! We should toss trash in the trash bin instead.  From now on, I will get rid of what I need to dispose in their respective places.  Will you?
